ABOUT US

Discover the Story of Stella Sourdough Artisan Bakes

Introducing Stella Sourdough, a bakery that celebrates the Appalachian spirit through Tiffiny Hurley's passion for simple, traditional sourdough. Each loaf embodies our love for wholesome ingredients and time-honored techniques. Join us on a flavorful journey that pays homage to our roots with every bite!

Tiffiny, along with husband/taste-tester Don, have been turning out hundreds of sourdough creations weekly from  their home-based bakery strategically located between Gray, Sulphur Springs, and Jonesborough in Northeast Tennessee.  Stella Sourdough products are available at several community-minded markets and can be custom ordered for "porch pickup".

Stella isn't a person...it's the name of the sourdough starter, given to Tiffiny by Amanda, a neighbor who turns out a few beautiful loaves per week.  Stella (named for the Marlon Brando shriek, "Stellaaaaa!" in the 1951 cinematic classic, A Streetcar Named Desire) comes from a starter that is believed to be over 125 years old.  The Hurleys offer Stellaaa! Seeds (dried starter that you can reconstitute and culture as your own).

Folks around Appalachia and beyond are talking about Stella Sourdough!

I am so happy I discovered you!!! I love your sourdough bread and I'm so happy I can find it at Stanley's.  I wanted to ask if it is okay to freeze sourdough dough bread?  I decided I will go to Stanley's every time I see you post a drop off.

Thank you so much ! I am so happy I found you because my son has chronic ulcerative colitis and he is able to tolerate your sourdough bread.  Plus he is the sandwich king ... I'm going to try your baguettes also.

Hey love! I just wanted to let you know I recently tried your San Francisco loaf from Boone Street Market and it was incredible! It stays soft for about a week, extremely soft, which is very impressive. I can’t wait to get more.

We received a wonderful surprise of Stella Sourdough yesterday and I’m addicted! I took a few pieces to work today so now I’m going to make myself their West Coast rep. AMAZING! Help these people go bicoastal.  If you haven’t tried it, I’m sorry! Your pallet will thank you.

As someone who suffers negative effects from eating like 99% of breads I can confirm that for myself personally I haven’t had any side effects from eating homemade sourdough. Thank you to my local sourdough bread maker Stella Sourdough for allowing me to enjoy the occasional piece of bread again! Also hers is delicious and local, if you are in the area you should check her business out! You won’t regret it!

I purchased a jalapeño cheese sourdough at Boone St Mkt on Thursday. I’m so excited to have found a bread that is perfect! I bake French bread and wonderful dinner rolls but I’ve never even tried sourdough. I’ve purchased bread all over the the country and numerous foreign countries… yours is the best ever!

I cannot adequately express how much we enjoy your sourdough!  I thought Troyer's was bringing it in from San Francisco, so I searched the internet last night, trying to find out who makes it.  I was thrilled to look at the packaging this morning and see that it's made locally!  We love it!  Thanks for making it!

Nicole loves the garlic rosemary and I think the San Francisco is a great combination of rustic and the tang of sourdough.  Nice air pockets in the dough too!  We loved that it was thin sliced!!!  We are fans!
